As a courtesy to our SHPOA Members, we’re bringing you a summary of each Stone Harbor Work Session and Council Meeting. Intended as summaries, these intentionally don’t have a lot of details and are not a substitute for the official Borough minutes.
Work Session
Public Safety
Fire Chief Roger Stanford reported that in April the department responded to 26 fire calls and 32 EMS calls.
Police Chief Thomas Schutta reported that police made 59 motor vehicle stops, issued 17 motor vehicle summons and responded to one accident as well as investigated five animal complaints.
Beach Patrol Chief Sandy Bosacco said the unit is supplementing its returning lifeguards with new recruits and he hopes to be staffed up soon.
Ongoing Discussions of Parking Issues
The Public Safety Committee discussed limiting parking permits to 180 but eventually decided to keep the number at 225, the same as last year.
The condo at Sunset Drive and 94th Street lost its angle parking and the committee is still considering a solution including having the condo put some parking spaces on its property.
During the public comment section of the meeting, two shopkeepers complained that there isn’t enough parking for employees.
Pickle Ball and More
Recreation Director Shannon MacPherson said open play pickle ball has begun with times allotted to players based on skill levels. Players can pay $5 a session or $250 for a seasonal membership.
Registrations for leagues are still open but filling up.
The department is running a craft and sports program at Chelsea Park while the other parks are being renovated.
Farmers’ Market
Tourism Director Jenny Olson reported that the Farmers’ Market is up and running with new vendors including one that sells free-range chicken eggs and another selling locally sourced fish.
