As a courtesy to our SHPOA Members, we’re bringing you a summary of each Stone Harbor Work Session and Council Meeting. Intended as summaries, these intentionally don’t have a lot of details and are not a substitute for the official Borough minutes.
Work Session
 
Council Members presented committee reports and updates during the work session, including:
•Public Safety:  Councilmember Frank Dallahan reported that in July the Stone Harbor Police Department responded to numerous incidents including 350 traffic stops, 15 vehicle accidents, and 35 medical calls. He noted that the Department had managed several events in July, including the July 4 festivities and the July 12 triathlon without incident. Dallahan stated that the department had focused on pedestrian safety, targeting dangerous intersections, such as the crossing at 96th Street and Third Avenue, as part of Cape May County’s shared taskforce effort. He added that Stone Harbor police had promoted bike safety by rewarding children with coupons and treats for practicing good habits, such as wearing bike helmets and obeying traffic laws.
•Recreation and Tourism:  Councilmember Bunny Parzych updated the progress on the flood mitigation project at the marina boat ramp. She reported that the Flood Mitigation Committee had met and ordered that the resolution for the project, as well as the bid specifications, be prepared so that the Council would be able to vote on the resolution at its September 1 meeting. Parzych also announced that the Council would vote on a resolution authorizing activities to take place during the Chamber of Commerce’s Savor September weekend on September 25 and 26 on 96th Street. She explained that events include the en Blanc dinner on Friday evening, followed by a festival on Saturday which would include beverages from local breweries and wineries, food from local restaurants and vendors, music, and children’s activities.  She announced that off-season fitness classes would soon resume including the “Sit and Be Fit’ program on September 3 on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the 82nd Street Recreation Center and “Move and Grove” Class on Wednesday, September 4, at the Basketball Pavillion at 11:00 AM.  
•As part of the discussion, Mayor Tim Carney announced that the Council will vote on a resolution to nominate the 82nd Street Jake’s Place Playground and the 97th Street Playground for an award recognizing excellence in municipal engineering projects. The competition is held annually by the New Jersey Society of Municipal Engineers to honor innovative solutions that advance public health, safety, welfare, sustainability, resilience, and quality of life through exceptional planning, design, construction, project management, and implementation of municipal infrastructure improvements.
•Natural Resources: Councilmember Robin Casper announced that the beach replenishment program for Stone Harbor is expected to begin on October 24 and conclude by November 15.
Regular Session
 
The Council also approved a number of Resolutions on the consent calendar:
•Resolution 2026-S-241, Supporting Assembly Bill AR-149, expressing support for all law enforcement officers and urging each municipality in the State to express its support for law enforcement;
•Resolution 2026-S-242, Approving the Special Event Application for Savor September;
•Resolution 2026-S-243, Authorizing the issuance of a private, handicapped parking space at 226 111th Street;
•Resolution 2026-S-244, Authorizing payment of approved payrolls and bills; and
•Resolution 2026-S-245, Authorizing rain dates for the Chamber of Commerce’s Sidewalk Sale.
