Beach Sweep Spring 2015 Results

BeachSweep2015

The spring Beach Sweep was held Saturday, April 25th from 9:00 to 12:30, with signup and supplies at 95th and the beach. Stone Harbor joined 50 other New Jersey coastal communities in the 30th Annual Clean Ocean Action conservation event. Brian Williamson, Research Scientist, The Wetlands Institute, was the team Captain.

We picked up 31 bags of trash, containing 1103 items, weighing approximately 407 pounds of debris. In total, 38 volunteers helped. The organizations that registered were Clean Ocean Action, Stone Harbor Property Owners Association, The Wetlands Institute, Stone Harbor Police Department, the Lions Club, and a group from Atlantic Cape Community College. Most of the other participants were individuals, including two from Avalon, not representing organizations.

The Borough of Stone Harbor worked with us to approve/organize the event and provide Stone Harbor Public Works support to setup and retrieved the trash.

We will plan to publicize the Fall Beach Sweep, scheduled for October 24, 2015.
