The Army Corps contract to replenish the SH beach has been halted due to regulatory and environmental concerns. No new dates have been established for this vital work. Unfortunately, SH will be going into the winter season with a very vulnerable beach profile. Stockton University, which monitors the beach for SH, reported after last winter’s storms that the beach was as depleted of sand as it was after Sandy. SH is working with Avalon and others to try and remedy the regulatory constraints that have stopped this work. It is not clear what the Corps will do to move forward with another option. The Borough has retained a consultant and environmental lawyer to try and lift the Corps Contract restrictions. They are also looking at receiving 10,000 cubic yards of sand from an outside source.
