As a courtesy to our SHPOA Members, we’re bringing you a summary of each Stone Harbor Work Session and Council Meeting. Intended as summaries, these intentionally don’t have a lot of details and are not a substitute for the official Borough minutes.
Administration and Finance
Committee Chair Jen Gensemer reported that they are continuing to seek a new borough administrator and will engage in contract negotiations with many of the borough’s unionized workers soon. The borough is considering sharing construction inspection responsibilities with Wildwood Crest as the current construction officer is retiring. Council plans to introduce the municipal budget April 1 and adopt it, May 20. It is seeking a spending cap waiver from the state. Future needs for cap relief could be addressed via a voter referendum next November.

Playgrounds
Equipment for the 96th Street Playground is being installed and resurfacing will follow. The basketball court expansion and resurfacing could be completed before the summer.

Flood Mitigation
Borough Engineer Marc DeBlasio reported on flood studies funded by the Federal Emergency Management Agency. Costs to mitigate flooding from 80th to 88th Streets could be $8.2 million. And, $7.1million between 89th and 99th Streets. The borough plans to seek federal grants to cover most of the costs. The report can be found at stoneharbornj.org, the borough’s website.

Regular Meeting
Mayor Tim Carney swore in the new police chief, Chris Palmer, in front of an audience of police and residents. Council passed several resolutions including naming Jenny Olsen as Recreation Director and raising pre- season beach tag prices to from $32 to $35 each.
