As a courtesy to our SHPOA Members, we’re bringing you a summary of each Stone Harbor Work Session and Council Meeting. Intended as summaries, these intentionally don’t have a lot of details and are not a substitute for the official Borough minutes.

Work Session

Playgrounds
Unsafe or worn-out playground equipment at 82nd and 97th Streets was removed by public works.

The Borough has received a grant to build a new playlot on 97th Street. It needs approval from the county to begin work and is scheduled to be completed by the summer of 2025.

Budget Schedule
The 2024 budget is set to be introduced at the second meeting in March, with a complete budget presentation, at the first meeting in April. At the second April meeting, Council is scheduled to have the public hearing and adopt the budget.

The Borough ended 2023 with $4.3 million in surplus, up over $140,000 over last year.

There is $7.1 million dollars scheduled for the capital budget which includes $350,000 in reserve for back bay dredging and $350,000 in the reserve for beach replenishment and maintenance. The three biggest projects in the budget are the reconstruction of the 200 block of 96th Street, the reconstruction of Second Avenue from 85th Street to 87th Street, and upgrades to the 80th Street marina.
